The Town Hall is one of New York City's most storied and beloved performance venues — a 1,479-seat National Historic Landmark steps from Times Square, built in 1921 by the League for Political Education and designed by the legendary architectural firm McKim, Mead & White. From the start, the Hall was built on a radical premise: every seat would have an unobstructed view of the stage, giving birth to the enduring phrase "not a bad seat in the house."
Over its century-long history, The Town Hall has been home to some of the most significant voices in American culture — from speeches by Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Winston Churchill to landmark performances by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Marian Anderson. More recently it has welcomed Patti Smith, Jack White, Joan Baez, Larry David, Stephen Colbert, Ira Glass, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and TED Talks.
